Tuchuanding Site

The Tuchuanding Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Tuchuanding Site is located on an accumulation terrace on the southwestern slope of Baihejian at the northern foot of Jinping Mountain in Yuanlin Neighborhood Committee, Quyang Subdistrict, Haizhou District, Lianyungang City. It is a high mound formed by accumulated loess. To the east of the site lies M’er Peak, to the west the Qiangwei River, to the south Jinping Mountain, and to the north the city of Haizhou. Due to its boat-like shape, it is named “Tuchuanding.” The site is over 100 meters long from east to west, over 30 meters wide from north to south, about 4 meters high, and covers a total area of approximately 3,500 square meters, with a cultural layer about 2 meters thick. Through surface collection and organization, artifacts found here include leg and rim fragments of red and gray pottery li tripods, geometric-patterned pottery shards, dou stem fragments, whetstones, stone axes, and more. Charcoal and multiple signs of fire damage have also been discovered at the site. The Tuchuanding Site is a settlement dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties and holds significant value for the study of Lianyungang’s history during that period.

It was listed as one of the first batch of cultural heritage conservation units of Lianyungang City in 1982, and as part of the eighth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage Conservation Units in 2019.

Quyang Subdistrict: The Quyang Subdistrict Office is situated in the heart of the ancient city of Haizhou. It lies to the south against Jinping Mountain and to the north beside Yudai River, neighboring the large Suqian-based Xinhua Power Plant. Joint Sino-Japanese ventures such as the Suntory Beer Factory, as well as municipal enterprises and institutions like the Second and Fourth People's Hospitals, are located within its jurisdiction. The area offers four mountains and three rivers for sightseeing (Jinping Mountain, Kongwang Mountain, Shipeng Mountain, Baihu Mountain, Yanhe River, Qiangwei River, and Yudai River, among which the Kongwang Mountain and Shipeng Mountain Scenic Areas are national AAA-level scenic spots).
