Ancient Tombs of Haizhou

The Ancient Tombs of Haizhou are a cultural heritage site protected by Lianyungang City.

The Ancient Tombs of Haizhou are located in Quyang Subdistrict, Haizhou District, stretching from Baihu Mountain in the west to Kongwang Mountain in the east, and from Yudai River in the north to the foot of Jinping Mountain in the south. Since the 1950s, numerous tombs have been unearthed in this area, including wooden-chambered and stone-chambered Han Dynasty tombs as well as brick-and-stone tombs from the Song Dynasty. A wealth of cultural relics has been excavated, some of which are rare artistic treasures seldom seen nationwide. For example, the Western Han Dynasty tombs of Shi Qiuyao and Huo He, reports on which have been publicly published in the journal Archaeology. In recent years, early Han Dynasty pictorial stone tombs and Ming Dynasty epitaphs have also been discovered. Currently, a large number of ancient tombs still remain buried underground in this area. The Haizhou Ancient Tomb Cluster is of great value for the study of ancient burial customs, institutional systems, and the history of Haizhou. It was designated as part of the first group of cultural heritage protection units in Lianyungang City in 1982.

Quyang Subdistrict: Quyang Subdistrict Office is located in the heart of the ancient city of Haizhou. It borders Jinping Mountain to the south, Yudai River to the north, and neighbors the large New Hai Power Plant in northern Jiangsu. Joint Sino-Japanese ventures such as the Suntory Beer Factory, as well as municipal enterprises and institutions like the Second and Fourth People's Hospitals, are situated within the subdistrict.
