Hai Zhou Eastern Han Tomb No. 2 is located in Shipeng Mountain Scenic Area, Shuanglong Village, Quyang Subdistrict, Haizhou District, Lianyungang City. The tomb is a late Eastern Han Dynasty brick-and-stone structure, consisting of a passageway, front chamber, and rear chamber. It measures 7 meters in east-west length and 3.12 meters in north-south width. The earthen passageway is sloped, and the tomb floor is paved with bricks arranged in a herringbone pattern. The roof is built with stacked bricks and stones, and the tomb walls are constructed using a “one stretcher, one header” method with blue bricks. The front chamber is nearly square in plan, with a roof featuring a four-cornered inward-sloping design. The rear chamber is rectangular in plan, with a roof built by stacking thirteen stone blocks that gradually step inward. The tomb door is located on the western wall of the front chamber and is sealed by two stone slabs. Outside the sealing stones are brick-built door jambs, topped with a lintel stone and supported by a base stone below. The front and rear chambers are connected by a doorway. The door consists of two lintel stones as pillars, topped with a lintel slab, with grooves carved between the pillars and lintel for interlocking. The eastern and western walls of the rear chamber both have stone pillars, each resting on a base. The entire tomb structure is tightly constructed and remains very stable to this day. Based on the unearthed artifacts, it is estimated that the tomb was built in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Most of the Han Dynasty tombs unearthed in our city over the years are wooden-chambered tombs from the mid-to-late Western Han Dynasty and early Han Dynasty pictorial stone tombs. This brick-and-stone structured tomb from the late Eastern Han Dynasty is the first of its kind discovered in our city and holds significant reference value for the study of ancient tomb structures. It was announced as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units of Lianyungang City in 1982.
