East Asia Hostel

East Asia Hostel is a cultural relic protection unit of Lianyungang City.

East Asia Hostel (including the stone-paved path in front) is located at No. 35 Xinshi Road, Xinpeng District. Built in 1919 with funds raised by local warlords, it is also known as the "Bai Residence" and covers an area of approximately 750 square meters. It is a connected complex of courtyard-style buildings. The two-story structure has over 40 rooms, is about 9 meters high, and features a brick-and-wood construction. The entrance hall is in European style, with a balcony, a hallway, and cylindrical pillars on the east and west sides. The pillar capitals are adorned with brick carvings featuring relief patterns of scrolled leaf motifs. The interior of the courtyard includes carved or painted columns, eaves, staircases, and handrails. The staircases are located at the southwest and northeast corners. The southern façade features Western-style doors and windows, while the interior of the courtyard has traditional Chinese lattice doors and windows. A stone-paved path approximately 40 meters long and 6 meters wide is laid in front of the building. This site holds certain value for studying the development history of the Xinpeng area, as well as the urban architectural styles of the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period. It was designated as part of the third batch of cultural relic protection units of Lianyungang City in 2001.

Protection Scope:

East to the west gable wall of the "First Pool," west to the alley, south to the road in front of the building, and north to 5 meters outside the north wall of the building.
