Former Residence of Zhou Enlai

The Former Residence of Zhou Enlai is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

- The residence is located at the junction of Qu Lane and Hongguang West Lane in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province.

- (1898–1976), courtesy name Xiangyu, was originally from Shaoxing, Zhejiang. - He was one of the key founders of New China, dedicating his life selflessly to the Chinese revolution and the liberation of the Chinese people, making tremendous contributions to the establishment of New China. He held important positions such as Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military Commission, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The residence consists of two adjacent courtyards, east and west, which were jointly purchased by Zhou Enlai’s grandfather and second uncle after they relocated from their ancestral home in Zhejiang to Huai'an. The two courtyards are separated by a long, narrow strip of land, connected by a partition wall and a side gate. Originally, there were 31 rooms in total: the east courtyard had three sections with 12 rooms, while the west courtyard had three sections with 19 rooms. On March 5, 1898, Zhou Enlai was born in the third room on the west side of the northern building in the west courtyard, where he spent his childhood and youth. The two rooms on the east side of the northern building in the west courtyard were where Zhou studied and received his earliest education. Zhou Enlai was a Marxist, proletarian revolutionary, statesman, military strategist, and diplomat. He was one of the principal leaders of the Communist Party of China and the People's Republic of China, one of the founders of the People's Liberation Army, and Premier of the People's Republic of China (1949–1976). Originally from Shaoxing, Zhejiang, he was born in Huai'an, Jiangsu. After graduating from Nankai School in Tianjin in 1917, he went to Japan to study. He returned to China in 1919, entered Nankai University in September, became a leader of the Tianjin student movement during the May Fourth Movement, and co-founded the progressive group Awakening Society with other activists...
