Huai'an Guan Di Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

As the foremost of the Five Great Ancient Temples of Tushan, it is the largest Guan Di Temple in Jiangsu Province. Originally built in 1460 during the mid-Ming Dynasty, it has stood for over 540 years and has undergone four major renovations during the Chongzhen, Yongzheng, Daoguang eras, and the Republican period. Under the direct leadership of the Pizhou Municipal Committee and the Tushan Party Committee government, restoration began in May 2005. Following the principles of restoring the site to its original appearance and preserving the old as it was, the Xuzhou Ancient Architecture and Garden Engineering Team carried out a comprehensive restoration, recovering the original temple site of over 22 acres and more than 100 ancient buildings. Here is an introduction to each part:

The temple faces south and is situated on a site approximately 80 meters wide from east to west and over 170 meters long from north to south, covering an area of more than 22 acres. It was first built in the third year of the Tian Shun era of the Ming Dynasty (1460), when Tushan enjoyed highly developed commerce, with shops lining both sides of the ancient streets and bustling market trade. On market days, people from nearly a hundred li around would flock to Tushan, making business brisk and often keeping shops open late into the night. To honor Guan Yu’s loyalty and righteousness and to give thanks for the divine protection that brought prosperity to the people of Tushan, local residents pooled funds in the third year of the Tian Shun era (1460) to build the Guan Di Temple and Ma Ji Pavilion. A temple fair is held annually on the 13th of September, with three days of opera performances on the temple’s stage to show the people’s gratitude to Guan Yu.

The temple follows a three-courtyard, four-section architectural layout, with the central axis as the main structure and symmetrical side buildings as auxiliary elements. With over 100 temple rooms, painted beams and carved pillars, upturned eaves and steep roofs, it stands as one of the most well-preserved ancient architectural complexes in northern Jiangsu.
