Chengtou Village Site

The Chengtou Village Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Chengtou Village Site is located in Chengtou Village, Fuxing Town, Huai'an District, Huai'an City. The site was discovered in 1961 during a regional archaeological survey conducted by the Nanjing Museum. The old course of the Huai River lies approximately 14 kilometers to its north. The area where the site is situated is part of the Yellow River alluvial plain. Investigations indicate that the site is positioned on an east-west oriented ridge that is noticeably elevated compared to the surrounding terrain. Later, it became covered with silt from the Yellow River floods, bringing it nearly level with the surrounding areas. Except for a slightly higher central area where no flood deposits were found, the rest of the site is overlain by flood deposits. In some local sections, the cultural layer lies beneath a two-meter-thick deposit of Yellow River silt.
