Dafeng Shanghai Educated Youth Memorial Hall is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The national AAAA-level tourist attraction — Dafeng Shanghai Educated Youth Memorial Hall — is located within the Shanghai Farm in Dafeng District, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Based on the cultural heritage of the educated youth movement, and rooted in the fertile ground of Dafeng’s red history and tidal flat culture, the museum was established around the theme of the over 80,000 educated youths from Shanghai who struggled to reclaim wasteland in the 1960s and 1970s. Although Dafeng is a "land enclave" of Shanghai, it consists of saline-alkali tidal flats and boundless wasteland. Like all educated youths who went to the countryside, they needed the courage to conquer nature and the perseverance to endure hardship in order to survive and thrive on this barren land. Back then, the educated youths dug canals, hauled carts, carried manure, and reclaimed land to grow crops, putting forth efforts that are hard for today’s youth to imagine. To commemorate their contributions to the prosperity and peace of the land today, through the joint efforts of Shanghai and Dafeng, the Shanghai Educated Youth Memorial Hall was built as a spiritual home for former educated youths to reminisce about their days of “conquering nature.” With care from leaders in both regions, support from the educated youths, and the museum’s own efforts, the Dafeng Shanghai Educated Youth Memorial Hall has continued to grow. It has successively established the “Jiangsu Provincial Social Practice Base for Minors (Yancheng · Dafeng),” “Jiangsu Provincial Science Education Base,” “Provincial Film and Television Shooting Base,” “Provincial Research and Study Tourism Demonstration Base,” “Yancheng Municipal Party School On-site Teaching Base,” and “Yancheng Municipal Primary and Secondary Schools Characteristic Culture Experience Base.” In the nearly ten years since its establishment, the museum complex, which includes five distinctive exhibition areas — the Shanghai Educated Youth Memorial Hall, Haifeng Youth Museum, North Shanghai History Exhibition Hall, China Educated Youth Theme Hall, and China Educated Youth Literature and Documentation Hall — covers a series of bases for education, film, and development. Supporting facilities such as hotels, small restaurants, homestays, and commercial streets have been successively built, put into operation, and continuously improved. Currently, based on its positioning as “a hub for China’s educated youth culture, a platform connecting Shanghai and Jiangsu, and a cultural industry park,” the Dafeng Shanghai Educated Youth Memorial Hall is committed to a market-oriented, distinctive, and socially engaged development path. It continues to strive toward becoming a national destination for educated youth gatherings, academic exchanges, and leisure vacation and wellness tourism, as well as a national-level museum themed on the educated youth experience and a national 5A-level tourist attraction.
