China Water Margin Park

China Water Margin Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

China Water Margin Park is located in Dafeng District, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. In 1993, the Baiju Town built the Shi Nai'an Memorial Hall on Huajiaduo Island, the original writing site of the novel. On April 8, 2016, with the Shi Nai'an Memorial Hall at its core, the national 4A-level tourist attraction “Shi Nai'an's Hometown · China Water Margin Park” was officially opened, covering an area of 215 acres and with a total investment of 300 million yuan.

The park mainly consists of key scenic spots such as the Shi Nai'an Memorial Hall, Shi Nai'an Academy, the Shi Family Stele Forest, the Water Margin Culture Experience Hall, Water Margin Street, and Juyi Bridge. It houses the national second-class cultural relic “Shi Family Genealogy,” as well as multiple national third-class relics including the “Shi Zian Fragmentary Stele,” “Shi Rang Land Deed,” and “Su Migration Shi Clan Ancestral Tablet,” along with several honors such as Jiangsu Provincial Water Conservancy Scenic Area, Jiangsu Patriotic Education Base, and provincial-level intangible cultural heritage. Historically, literati such as Fan Zhongyan, Zheng Banqiao, Li Ruzhen, Kong Shangren, and Liu Bowen frequently visited, giving rise to many beautiful legends and anecdotes. Leveraging these unique cultural resources, China Water Margin Park showcases the distinctive cultural charm of “Shi Gong’s Hometown, the Birthplace of Water Margin.”

The Shi Nai'an Academy has a total construction area of 1,015 square meters. The exterior of the academy is entirely built with blue tiles and walls, with chestnut-colored doors, windows, and pillars, reflecting the simple and elegant architectural style of the Southern Song Dynasty.

The Shi Nai'an Memorial Hall covers an area of 28 acres, with a total building area of 1,100 square meters. Surrounded by water on all sides, it boasts beautiful scenery. The exhibition areas inside include the Shi Nai'an Life Hall (Minglun Hall), the Origin Room, the Water Margin Culture Hall, and the Ancestral Worship Hall. The park houses hundreds of celebrity calligraphy and painting works, with 89 already displayed on the walls. These include works by Mr. Chen Lifu, renowned Redology scholar Mr. Feng Qiyong, Ms. Liao Jingwen (wife of Xu Beihong), and author of “Flowers Under the High Mountains,” Mr. Li ????. Visitors can not only appreciate exquisite calligraphy and painting art but also deeply contemplate the culture and current social issues reflected in the classic novel.

The Water Margin Culture Experience Hall is the largest comprehensive landmark building in China Water Margin Park. Its main functions include showcasing Water Margin culture, staging Water Margin-themed performances, and offering specialty commercial services.

The Xu Peichen Art Gallery in China Water Margin Park is the sixth national themed gallery dedicated to Xu Peichen. To express admiration for Shi Nai'an and passion for Water Margin culture, Mr. Xu Peichen carefully created 108 artworks, subtly representing the 108 heroes of Water Margin. Together with his personal collection of precious artworks by famous artists, he donated them to the park for permanent display. The gallery is thoughtfully planned and arranged based on the themes of the artworks and elements of Water Margin culture, creating a richly cultural atmosphere.

The China Water Margin Park scenic area draws on the spiritual essence of the Chuanchang River, embodies the heritage of classic literature, harmoniously blends antiquity with modernity, and intertwines culture with ecology, offering high value for sightseeing and leisure.

Standing within the China Water Margin Park and looking into the distance, the Tongyu River and Chuanchang River run north-south, while the Thirty-Li River connects east-west with Haigou River. At night, the glimmering fishing lights flicker and dance on the rippling water. Viewed from above, the park is surrounded by water, shaded by green trees, with sand birds flying low and fishing boats gently drifting, evoking the feeling of being amid the reed marshes of Liangshan.

The park showcases both stunning natural landscapes and brilliant cultural attractions. Visitors can wander through the serene and classic China Water Margin Park, immersing themselves in the timeless charm of classic literature, or stroll along the leisurely ecological and cultural streets, enjoying the harmonious blend of history and modernity.
