Taizhou Sanshui Bay
Eastday.com, September 21 — A new engine is set to drive the city government’s ambitious plan to build “China’s No. 1 Night Tourism City.” Construction has officially commenced on the trendy leisure district of Taizhou’s “Sanshui Bay,” which will feature the key elements of “night dining, night tours, night entertainment, night shopping, and night stays.” This information was revealed at the “Sanshui Bay Fashion Leisure District Expert Seminar and Press Conference” held yesterday. The entire district is expected to be completed by the end of this year and will officially open to the public next spring.
It is understood that the Taizhou Sanshui Bay Fashion Leisure District is the third phase of the Fengcheng River Scenic Area project, aiming to become an “international lakeside open-style fashion leisure district.” Located on a peninsula where the Fengcheng River Scenic Area meets South Gulou Road, it connects with the Old Taizhou Street. The architecture features black tiles, gray and white walls, and transparent glass, combining traditional cultural elements with a modern flair. Based on this design, a block of 12 courtyard complexes has been created in an antique street style. In terms of architectural style, “Sanshui Bay” continues the essence of ancient buildings by integrating imperial garden designs to create a high-end, regal-fashion leisure district. “Twelve residential courtyard complexes offer a classic waterside island block experience, connected by cross-island roads, waterfront pathways, and uniquely styled arched bridges and stone paths that seamlessly link to the city’s main traffic arteries and upscale lakeside communities,” the sources added.
Liu Ning, Deputy Secretary-General of the Taizhou Municipal Government and Director of the Fengcheng River Scenic Area Management Committee, said that “Sanshui Bay” is the fourth flagship attraction following the Wanghai Tower, Taoyuan Garden, and Old Taizhou Street within the Fengcheng River Scenic Area. Once completed, it will offer three major highlights: First, the consumption appeal. Sanshui Bay will primarily target mid-to-high-end consumers, including government and business receptions, out-of-town premium tourists, and urban elites, while also providing an excellent leisure destination for local residents and general visitors. Second, the ecological appeal. Situated on a peninsula, its lakeside leisure district is quite rare in China. Third, the cultural appeal. The project will integrate the concept of “prosperous culture, beautiful waters, and the auspicious city of Taizhou,” incorporating local cultural elements. Upon completion, it will become a highlight of Taizhou’s cultural tourism.
The project operator, Nanjing Meili Sancai Commercial Management Consulting Co., Ltd., has 12 years of experience in commercial real estate development. A company representative stated that the “Sanshui Bay” project represents a conceptual upgrade of Shanghai Xintiandi and Nanjing 1912 in Taizhou. “Sanshui Bay” focuses on tapping into the city’s representative culture and guiding urban fashion leisure trends. It combines the strengths of traditional historical blocks, themed shopping malls, and modern fashion streets, introducing top-tier domestic brand flagship stores. The goal is to ignite Taizhou’s night culture upon opening and comprehensively boost the development of the “night dining, night tours, night entertainment, night shopping, and night stays” industries, effectively extending Taizhou’s night leisure hours by several hours.
At yesterday’s press conference, numerous well-known F&B brands — including SOHO, A8, Blue Marlin, Yuehonghe, Chake Laozhan, and TNT Club — expressed strong interest in the “Sanshui Bay” project and indicated their intention to set up shop there.
"The 'Sanshui Bay' Fashion Leisure District is committed to creating a stylish space that embraces cultural richness, innovation, environmental consciousness, and the charm of daily life," said a spokesperson for the Taizhou Fengcheng River Scenic Area today in an interview. The district is scheduled to officially open and begin operations in the first half of next year.
Positioned as an “international lakeside open-style fashion leisure district,” “Sanshui Bay” is being developed by the management committee of the Fengcheng River Scenic Area, a national 4A-level tourist attraction. From design and construction to merchant recruitment and management, the focus is on enhancing overall quality. The project fully explores Taizhou’s rich leisure culture while integrating modern elements of global leisure trends.
The “Sanshui Bay” Fashion Leisure District is located by the picturesque and culturally rich Fengcheng River, adjacent to the city’s main thoroughfare, South Gulou Road. It boasts top-tier urban tourism ecological resources and prime downtown commercial district advantages. With architecture characterized by black tiles, gray and white walls, and transparent glass, the design contrasts tradition with modernity, forming a distinctive foundation that combines classical cultural elements with contemporary style. This aesthetic forms a complex of 12 courtyard-style blocks, highlighting the charm of an urban waterside ambiance. It serves as a comprehensive tourism service system integrating night dining, night tours, night entertainment, night shopping, and night stays.
A spokesperson for the Taizhou Fengcheng River Scenic Area happily reported that the “Sanshui Bay” district, as Taizhou’s premier “leisure business zone,” has already attracted a first wave of leading domestic and international brands — including Starbucks Coffee, SOHO Bar, Yuehonghe, and Tanjia Imperial Cuisine. Additionally, over 100 top-tier brands such as Polar NO.88 Bar, Western Snow Lotus KTV Bar, Happy Town Karaoke, Jiudingxiang Hotpot, Canadian Beanery Coffee, Hainabaichuan Southeast Asian Cuisine, Yishoutang Imperial Creative Dining, and Qicha Teahouse have expressed investment intent.
Two thousand years ago, Taizhou was a city where the Yangtze, Huai, and sea waters converged, and where clear, murky, and salty flavors blended — a place of profound cultural heritage and stunning natural scenery. The city boasts abundant tourism resources, especially wetland ecology and folk culture tourism, which have become its defining features. In recent years, it has attracted a large number of domestic and international visitors, emerging as a new highlight of tourism in the Yangtze River Delta. In 2008, Taizhou welcomed 8 million domestic and foreign tourists, with total tourism revenue exceeding 8 billion yuan.
A spokesperson for the Taizhou Fengcheng River Scenic Area noted that the launch of this district will significantly boost the upgrading of Taizhou’s modern commercial and service industries. It will also play a crucial role in driving urban fashion leisure consumption, vividly showcasing Taizhou’s cultural landscape, accelerating the city’s international development, and becoming a new calling card that carries Taizhou’s culture and embodies its fashion.
