Shanghai Naval Museum is recognized as a science education base, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

Shanghai Naval Museum is located within the Wusong Naval Port area. It is currently the most comprehensive naval museum in China in terms of historical materials and exhibition layout. On November 21, 1992, the - President personally inscribed the museum’s name, and it has been designated as a National Youth Education Base.

The museum consists of four exhibition halls and a military school: the Main Exhibition Hall, the Naval Weapons Hall, the Marine Art Hall, the Indoor Shooting Hall, and the Baoshan Naval Cadet School. The Main Exhibition Hall features displays on ancient and modern Chinese naval history, a brief history of the East China Sea Fleet, marine wonders, and global naval equipment. The Naval Weapons Hall houses many shipborne weapons, and the outdoor exhibition area features the heroic "Sea Eagle" torpedo boat that once saw combat, as well as a J-6 fighter jet. The Marine Art Hall showcases a large collection of marine biological specimens, resembling an underwater crystal palace. The Indoor Shooting Hall includes a live-fire range for small arms. The Naval Cadet School offers a full set of standardized facilities for group activities, learning, and training for up to 500 students.
