The Shanghai Museum of Glass is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

China’s first museum dedicated to glass — the Shanghai Museum of Glass — opened on May 18, 2011, at No. 685 West Changjiang Road, Baoshan District. Originally the old glass furnace workshop of Shanghai Light Industry Glass Co., Ltd., it has now been transformed into an artistic venue showcasing the development of modern technology and craftsmanship. Visitors can gain a deeper understanding of glass, an ever-present “friend” in our daily lives.

The Shanghai Museum of Glass is located within the G+ Glass Theme Park, China’s first theme park dedicated to glass that integrates functions such as exhibitions, art, technology, business, education, entertainment, and lifestyle. The G+ Glass Theme Park, with glass as its central artistic theme, on one hand uses a diverse and open physical format to showcase, explain, update, and enrich the material and spiritual forms of glass from multiple levels and perspectives. On the other hand, it also uses glass as a medium to present, discover, innovate, explore, and extend the various possibilities of its own and the city’s cultural heritage and future. The “G” in G+ stands for the first letter of the English word “Glass,” and G+ represents a proposition of infinite possibilities for glass — a vivid interpretation of the Shanghai Glass Theme Park that uses glass as its central theme. It symbolizes the many possibilities of glass and the great inclusiveness and unlimited future of the Shanghai Glass Theme Park.

The Shanghai Museum of Glass aims to create a brand-new museum experience through rich historical knowledge, vibrant glass artworks, open exchange spaces, and community-based communication methods, bringing China and the world, glass art and other art forms, history and works, culture and industry, and glass art and people closer together.

Summer opening hours for the main museum building: Tuesday–Sunday 9:30–18:00 (last entry at 17:00); Winter opening hours for the main museum building: Tuesday–Sunday 9:30–17:00 (last entry at 16:00); Summer evening sessions: Saturday 18:00–21:00 (last ticket sale at 20:00). Children’s Museum of Glass opening hours: Summer: Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00 (last entry at 17:00); Winter: Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–17:00 (last entry at 16:00).
