The Shanghai Yangtze River Estuary Science and Technology Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a science education base, and a patriotic education base.

The Shanghai Yangtze River Estuary Science and Technology Museum is located within the Wusong Paotaiwan Wetland Forest Park. It is one of the key collaborative projects between Baoshan District Government and East China Normal University. Funded and constructed by the Baoshan District Government, the museum officially opened on October 18, 2011.

The Shanghai Yangtze River Estuary Science and Technology Museum is a public science education facility themed around the historical evolution of the Yangtze River estuary. It integrates functions such as science education, scientific research, and tourism leisure. As a specialized science venue in Shanghai, the museum emphasizes “water” due to its unique geographical location, showcasing knowledge about the estuary’s natural ecology, technological applications, and human history. It combines science communication, educational research, and patriotic education, featuring distinctive characteristics of the Baoshan area as a multifunctional, experiential comprehensive facility.

The museum covers an area of 6,084 square meters, with a building area of 7,707 square meters. It features five exhibition halls and 51 exhibits. The five exhibition halls are the Introductory Hall, Resources and Environment Hall, Scientific Research and Application Hall, Humanities and History Hall, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. Additional public areas include a 4D cinema, conference center, coffee bar, and souvenir shop. The 4D dynamic cinema currently shows films such as "Wusong Storm," "Dino fish Warriors," "Back to the Permian," and "Marine Spirits." The Shanghai Yangtze River Estuary Science and Technology Museum also supplements its exhibitions with a variety of themed events. Since 2011, it has hosted activities such as the Award Ceremony of the 5th Shanghai Science Popularization Multimedia Works Competition, International Museum Day Joint Exhibition, Baoshan District Science Carnival, Shanghai Selection Contest of the 12th China Adolescent Robot Competition, City Science Junior Reporters Visit, 2012 Polar Exploration Exhibition, National Science Popularization Day & Model Car World, Anniversary Forum, Shanghai Ocean Forum, World Water Day, and the Shanghai Public Security Beneficiary Tour. These events have been widely welcomed by young people and citizens. Since its opening, the museum has received nearly 300,000 visitors. It has been awarded titles such as National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction, National Science Education Base, National Marine Science Base, Shanghai Patriotic Education Base, Shanghai Specialized Science Venue, Shanghai Science Education Base, Shanghai Science Tourism Demonstration Base, East China Normal University Estuarine and Coastal Science Comprehensive Experimental Base, and East China Normal University Baoshan Cultural Creativity R&D Center.

Adhering to the spirit of “technology leadership and innovative development,” the museum continuously seeks new breakthroughs, striving to highlight its uniqueness through specialization, science, visual appeal, and interactivity—better positioning itself at the estuary, showcasing Baoshan, and serving Shanghai.
