Baoshan District Archives

The Baoshan District Archives serves as a patriotic education base.

The predecessor of the Baoshan District Archives was the Baoshan County Archives, established in December 1959. In September 1988, the Baoshan County and Wusong District Archives were dissolved, and the Baoshan District Archives was established. It is a national comprehensive archives that centrally and uniformly preserves the archival materials of district-level government agencies, organizations, enterprises, institutions, as well as various towns and subdistricts in Baoshan District. It houses the “Shen Tongheng Exhibition Hall” and the “Si Tong Exhibition Hall.” In 2006, it was designated as a District Patriotic Education Base by the Baoshan District Government.

The Baoshan District Archives covers a total area of 3,117 square meters, including 726 square meters of storage space. The oldest records preserved date back to the Republican era, but the majority of the archives are from after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The collection mainly consists of paper documents, including not only textual archives but also key Shanghai municipal projects such as the infrastructure archives of the Yixian Elevated Road, as well as ten types of specialized archives like real estate and marriage records. There are also valuable collections such as inscriptions by Party and state leaders and calligraphy and paintings by notable figures.

In recent years, the Baoshan District Archives has continuously expanded its public service functions by opening a current documents reading room and a centralized acceptance point for government information disclosure. It also makes full use of its archival resources to host exhibitions.
