Ruins of the Shanhai Work-Study Group

The ruins of the Shanhai Work-Study Group are a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

The ruins of the Shanhai Work-Study Group are located at No. 200 Longzhu Garden, Dahua Road. Established in the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932), it was a unique rural education organization founded by Tao Xingzhi. After the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933), it became an activity base for the underground Communist Party organization, carrying out national crisis education. In the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937), after the August 13th Battle of Shanghai, the Shanhai Work-Study Group was forced to close as its location fell within the war zone. In April 1946, the 35th year of the Republic of China, Tao Xingzhi returned to Shanghai and resumed the group under the name Shanhai Experimental Rural School. In 1981, its original name “Shanhai Work-Study Group” was restored.

In 1992, it was designated as a protected heritage site, and on April 4, 2014, it was officially announced as a “Shanghai Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.”
