The former sites of the Greater China Cotton Mill and Huafeng Cotton Mill

The former sites of the Greater China Cotton Mill and Huafeng Cotton Mill are protected as cultural heritage sites by Shanghai Municipality.

The former sites of the Greater China Cotton Mill and Huafeng Cotton Mill are located at No. 258, Songxing West Road, Wusong, within the former site of the Shanghai No. 8 Cotton Mill. Historical evolution:

1922 – Greater China Cotton Mill → January 1925 – Yong’an Textile Mill No. 2 (Yong’an Mill No. 4 was added in 1930, and in August 1942, Japanese businesses forcibly formed the "cooperative" Yongfeng Company) → 1945 – Yong’an Textile Mills No. 2 and No. 4 → September 1955 – Public-private Joint Operation Yong’an No. 2 Cotton Mill.

1921 – Huafeng Cotton Mill → 1926 – Nichihua Textile Co., Ltd. Mill No. 8 (Japanese-owned) → 1931 – Nichihua Textile Co., Ltd. Huafeng Workshop (Japanese-owned) → 1943 – Nichihua Textile Co., Ltd. Wusong Workshop (Japanese-owned) → 1946 – China Textile Construction Corporation Shanghai No. 8 Textile Mill → 1950 – State-owned Shanghai No. 8 Cotton Mill.

In 1958, the Public-private Joint Operation Yong’an No. 2 Cotton Mill and the State-owned Shanghai No. 8 Cotton Mill merged to form the State-owned Shanghai No. 8 Cotton Mill.

Designated as a district-level cultural heritage site in 2011 and as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in 2014.
