"Welcoming the Liberation of Shanghai" Memorial Sculpture Group

The "Welcoming the Liberation of Shanghai" Memorial Sculpture Group is a classic red tourism site and a patriotic education base.

The "Welcoming the Liberation of Shanghai" Memorial Sculpture Group, as the centerpiece of the Donggong Patriotic Education Base, was built to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the May 30th Movement and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions. It was officially unveiled on May 7, 1985, the anniversary of the Liberation of Shanghai. The entire sculpture is meticulously crafted from fiberglass-reinforced plastic, featuring an all-white design, standing 5 meters tall, 8 meters long, and 2 meters wide. The sculpture consists of eight figures with distinct expressions, vividly depicting four scenes: underground struggles, the liberation of Shanghai, the meeting of the People’s Liberation Army and the workers’ patrol team, and the factory protection movement. The base is made of red artificial marble, with the eight golden characters “Welcoming the Liberation of Shanghai” engraved in the center. On the left is an inscription briefly documenting the glorious history of the working class in Shanghai's Huadong and Huaxi areas protecting factories and welcoming liberation. In front of the sculpture lies a large plaza paved with red steel bricks, set against the surrounding lush pines and cypresses, providing a beautiful and serene environment for visitors to pay tribute and reflect.
