Shanghai, April 1, 2018 — Humor and jokes are essential lubricants in life, and every April Fools’ Day is filled with unexpected surprises. The Shanghai Dungeon, a new diversified immersive performance-themed entertainment attraction set to officially debut this fall, played an “unforgettable” prank on citizens today by launching a custom “Prankster” series of perfumes at YOHO MALL in Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street. This gave the public a sneak peek at its quirky and humorous side. This April Fools’ Day, dare to smell the scent of Shanghai Dungeon.

The released perfume collection includes five scents: “The Boss’s Money Box,” “The Person with Secrets,” “Wild at the Docks,” “The Crazy Doctor,” and “The Fortune Teller’s Game.” These fragrances are inspired by the stories and legends set to unfold in the upcoming venue, and incorporate unique “signature scents” exclusive to Shanghai Dungeon, allowing the public a taste of the “mystical aroma” infused with “Old Shanghai tales and legends.” Unlike commercially available perfumes, the “Prankster” series is only available for sampling on April Fools’ Day. Each fragrance is closely tied to the hot topics in the lives of today’s youth, tailored for “moonlight clan,” “paranoids,” “Buddhist youth,” and more.

The Boss’s Money Box: A base note of ambergris blended with the scents of coins and leather helps relieve the “no-money phobia” of the “moonlight clan.”

The Person with Secrets: Sandalwood infused with chili scent gives off an “approach-with-caution” vibe.

Wild at the Docks: The richness of whiskey mixed with the smells of sweatbands and padlocks creates an indescribably wild charm.

The Crazy Doctor: Licorice, coconut, and hospital aromas form a “cure” for “obsessive-compulsive personalities.”

The Fortune Teller’s Game: A fresh mix of elderflower and basil with an undertone of musty moss, this odd combination is tailor-made for “Buddhist youth.”

At the experience event, one of the main characters of Shanghai Dungeon—the “Boss,” who will be the only character able to take visitors into the Dungeon once it opens—joined “Dungeon residents” to interact with citizens and showcase the perfumes. Whether the scents were “mysteriously pleasant” or “hard to describe,” they gave passersby unexpected fun amid the “unusual fragrances.” For those still wanting more after sampling these indescribable “scents,” Shanghai Dungeon also offered benefits, inviting them to visit the venue this fall after its opening to personally experience more anticipated “mystical aromas.”

This April Fools’ Day “Prankster” perfume series is an innovative brand experience activity created by Shanghai Dungeon, inspired by its core entertainment essence of “fun frights” and drawing from the stories of its characters and its full-sensory immersive experiences. As a diversified immersive performance-themed entertainment attraction that blends live-action performance, themed narrative adventures, and special effects, Shanghai Dungeon leverages its years of global operational experience and meticulous consideration for visitor experience to create highly immersive venue designs in every detail. Take the sense of smell highlighted in this experience—among the five human senses, smell is the most sensitive and closely linked to memory and emotion. Research has found that specific scents can instantly evoke scenes associated with them and, even a year later, allow people to recall those moments with 65% accuracy. In Shanghai Dungeon, each themed area will have its own signature scent to further immerse visitors in the “mystical world” and embark on their own unknown adventure.

Shanghai Dungeon’s attention to venue design goes even further. Inspired by old Shanghai’s nostalgic legends and stories, and centered around immersive performances, the attraction features numerous “Dungeon residents” portrayed by professional comedians across 10 themed areas. Combined with mechanical props, as well as scent and sound effects in each area, visitors are treated to visual, auditory, and olfactory stimulation, delivering a full-sensory immersive “Scary Fun” entertainment experience. In addition to the already announced “Boss” character, the venue will introduce nearly 10 other roles played by professional comedians, including “Dock Worker,” “Bar Owner,” “Doctor’s Assistant,” and “Fortune Teller.” Some are friendly, others stern; some mysterious, others quick-tempered... These “Dungeon residents” will guide visitors through the stories of Shanghai Dungeon, where guests are not just observers but participants. The storyline is designed with a dramatic twist—after experiencing all 10 themed areas, visitors will be surprised to discover what role they played in subtly advancing the plot.

This fall, Shanghai Dungeon will grandly open at YOHO MALL located at 353 Nanjing East Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. Before the official opening, a series of brand activities under the theme “Discover the Dungeon (Authentic Dungeon)” will gradually unveil the unique charm of the Dungeon brand. Following the release of the “Prankster” perfumes, Shanghai Dungeon will also launch actor auditions, “Scary Fun” pop-up experiences, and limited early-bird ticket sales to let the public explore the Dungeon brand from different angles and get a taste of its extraordinary appeal before the opening.

Unexpected “scares,” unexpected surprises. This fall, Shanghai Dungeon will take visitors on a thrilling and unpredictable adventure.
