Guangzhou, April 4, 2018 — On April 1st, Guangzhou Chimelong Water Park opened to a booming start. In addition to the globally unique "Sky Wheeling Slide," which water enthusiasts flocked to experience first, the "Chimelong Water Electro Music SHOW," held every evening since the park's opening, was exceptionally lively. Created by the team behind the "Beijing 8 Minutes" at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics closing ceremony in collaboration with a renowned Dutch lighting design firm, and featuring elements of sky, earth, humanity, water, fire, along with China’s top DJ teams and famous MCs delivering the most powerful EDM sounds, the show offers visitors a one-of-a-kind, world-class water entertainment experience at Chimelong Water Park.

This marks the first time a domestic theme park has been able to engage such a top-tier stage lighting and scenic design team, fully demonstrating the leading industry strength of Chimelong Water Park. Sha Xiaolan stated that Chimelong Group’s significant investment and hiring of a professional team to create such a high-spec stage is a bold move unmatched by other theme parks in China or even globally. Olympic-level sound, light, and electrical design

Chimelong Group has always been committed to creating world-class themed entertainment culture. Before the opening of Chimelong Water Park, the design team visited water parks around the world. When it officially opened to water enthusiasts in 2006, it innovatively broke away from traditional water park designs. While introducing multiple international water play facilities, it also pioneered building a performance stage within a water park—a move that even impressed theme park owners from the United States and Canada when they visited Chimelong.

Through continuous innovation, the "Chimelong Water Electro Music SHOW" has become a unique trendsetter, attracting numerous EDM enthusiasts over the years. This year, Chimelong has invested heavily to invite the production team behind the "Beijing 8 Minutes" at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics closing ceremony to create the most internationally standardized electro music stage lighting system for the show. The production team is led by Sha Xiaolan, a national first-class stage lighting designer who has previously been responsible for the stage and lighting design of major events such as the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, the Guangzhou Asian Games, and the G20 Summit in Hangzhou. The design concept mainly involves skillfully integrating the elements of sky, earth, humanity, and water through stage design and lighting, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the water electro music show.

World-class stage lighting effects

The Dutch company Dutchrigger was responsible for the specific installation and control of the lighting system. Dutchrigger specializes in providing design and flawless technical support for stage lighting, sound, video, and more for large-scale performance projects. Its footprint spans from the big stages in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to numerous large stadiums around the world. Martijn, the head of Dutchrigger, has personally participated in the design and technical support of many major global performances and TV shows—including Madonna’s world tours, MTV Awards, and the Dutch "Voice"—as a stage manager over the past decade.

Martijn said that upon receiving the invitation for the "Chimelong Water Electro Music SHOW," his first thought was: "This water-based electro music stage is so cool!" Martijn’s team aimed to create an atmosphere similar to a Miami beach party, using lighting to complement the EDM and push the party vibe to one climax after another, allowing visitors to fully relax and enjoy the water electro music party. The lighting design they presented is flexible, using a variety of lighting types such as spotlights, wash lights, and strobe lights to create diverse stage shapes. Additionally, they enhanced the lighting design for the surrounding environment, including the background trees, which can be illuminated at the right moments to make the overall scene more harmonious. Then, all the lighting can change effects in sync with the beat and rhythm of the music, aiming to deliver an incredibly stunning experience to the audience.

Secondly, the ability to program lighting remotely at a distance is the second unique strength of Dutchrigger. They have set up a complete and accurate 3D model in their overseas pre-programming studio, which can also incorporate elements such as video, fireworks, and water effects to make it more comprehensive. Creating this 3D model makes it possible to program time-coded performance effects remotely—just send the music to the 3D studio, and a few days later, a time-coded programmed performance file can be sent back. This means the entire stage lighting setup can be easily adapted to different DJs and music, ensuring that water enthusiasts always enjoy a top-tier, complete experience.

International water performances

In addition, a screen system designed by a world-class electro music planning company will also make its debut, combined with stage effects such as colored fireworks, pyrotechnics, and water curtain fountains, along with world-class performance artists presenting the coolest water performances and extreme acts, allowing visitors to enjoy a diverse range of aquatic entertainment shows.

Chimelong Water Park introduced a new performance team in 2018 to join the "Chimelong Water Electro Music SHOW." First is the Australian water flyers team, who not only showcase gravity-defying aerial water flight skills but also perform the rare surfboard flying acts in China, offering strong visual impact. Additionally, there’s the Latin American samba troupe and the European girl modern dance group, keeping the audience enthralled.
