The Shanghai Textile Museum is recognized as a popular science education base and a patriotic education base.

The Shanghai Textile Museum is situated at the former site of the Ninth Shanghai Shenxin Textile Mill, on the south bank of the Suzhou River, north of Aomen Road, east of Changhua Road, and northwest of the Changshou Road Bridge. It offers an outdoor exhibition space of 1,500 square meters and an indoor exhibition space of 4,480 square meters, functioning as a regional industry-specific museum. Through the display of physical objects, documents, scenes, images, models, and multimedia, the museum presents the historical development of the textile industry in the Shanghai area. It highlights the heroic struggles of Shanghai’s textile workers—under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party—against imperialism, feudalism, and oppression, as well as their remarkable achievements during the socialist construction period. The grand introductory hall, the profound History Gallery, the time-spanning Highlights Gallery, the interactive Science Gallery, and the aesthetically pleasing Beijing & Kunqu Opera Costume Gallery collectively showcase over 6,000 years of industrial history and culture in Shanghai’s textile sector. The museum has now become a national model base for spiritual civilization in the textile industry, a national popular science education base, a Shanghai patriotic education base, a Shanghai popular science education base, a Shanghai industrial tourism base, and the revolutionary memorial site of the “February 2nd Struggle” at Shenjiu.
