The Shanghai Changfeng Yacht & Cruise Ship Pavilion serves as a science education base.

Situated within Changfeng No. 2 Green Space, the Shanghai Yacht Club stands out amid the meandering riverbanks and verdant lawns—the five preserved historic buildings (three original and two reconstructed) are especially striking, elegant, and graceful.

Although these five buildings may appear “much the same from the outside,” they serve very different purposes. Some function as clubs, others as restaurants, bars, and banquet halls. Among them, Building 4, a two-story structure, has been converted into the “Shanghai Changfeng Yacht & Cruise Ship Pavilion.” Together with the outdoor facilities—including Shanghai’s first standard yacht marina on the Suzhou River, a yacht exhibition area, yacht club, and yacht bar—it further enriches the ambiance of yacht culture. Visitors who aren’t paying close attention can easily miss it.

Like the previously introduced “Trademark & Matchbox Label Collection Museum,” the “Yacht & Cruise Ship Pavilion” is one of the first cultural projects initiated and completed within the Changfeng Eco-Business District series of specialized exhibition venues. It is also the city’s first science-themed pavilion dedicated to introducing the yacht and cruise ship industry. In 2009, it was designated as a Shanghai Science Education Base.

The pavilion has two floors, covering approximately 400 square meters. The ground floor primarily features foreign yachts, while the second floor showcases Chinese cruise ships. Through photo panels, yacht and cruise ship models, multimedia displays, and advanced real-time chroma key technology, the venue combines educational content with visual appeal and entertainment, making it an excellent site for science education and traditional cultural history learning. It includes seven thematic sections: “Origins of Cruise Ships,” “Yachts,” “Cruise Ships,” “Decorated Boats & Dragon Boats,” “Yacht Industry,” “Legends of Cruise Ships,” and “Charming Suzhou River,” highlighting the theme of “Old Ferries, New Piers,” leaving a memorable impression on visitors.
