The Bronze Statue of Lei Feng Memorial serves as a patriotic education base.

Lei Feng, born on December 18, 1940, in Jianjiatang Village, Wangcheng County, Hunan Province, into a poor farming family, became an orphan before the age of seven. In 1949, Lei Feng joined the Children’s Corps and served as its leader. In 1954, he joined the Chinese Young Pioneers. In 1956, he worked as a messenger at the township government and was soon transferred to work as an office clerk for the Communist Party Committee of Wangcheng County, where he was recognized as a model worker. On February 8, 1957, he joined the Communist Youth League of China and was repeatedly honored as a model laborer and advanced producer. In 1960, Lei Feng enlisted in the People's Liberation Army and was assigned to the transport company of an engineering corps unit, serving as a driver in Squad 4. That same year, he joined the Chinese Communist Party. Within less than three years of service, he was awarded one second-class merit, two third-class merits, recognized as a model of thrift, and honored as an exemplary member of the Communist Youth League. He also attended the Shenyang Military Region Communist Youth League Representative Conference. In 1961, Lei Feng was elected as a representative to the Fushun Municipal People’s Congress. He died in the line of duty on August 15, 1962.

The memorial bronze statue was jointly funded and built in October 1984 by the Youth League Committee of the former Shanghai Industrial Bureau, the Shanghai Young Pioneers Council, and the "Good Eighth Company on Nanjing Road." In March 1991, Chen Guangsheng, author of the book “The Story of Lei Feng” and former officer of the Political Department of the Shenyang Military Region, traveled specifically to Shanghai’s Changfeng Park to join local youths in activities commemorating Lei Feng.
