Statue in Memory of Martyr Chen Ruisheng

The Statue in Memory of Martyr Chen Ruisheng serves as a patriotic education base.

Chen Ruisheng, a member of the Communist Party of China, Han ethnicity, was born in April 1977 in Suiping County, Henan Province. In September 1996, he enrolled in the Transportation and Civil Engineering program at the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Shanghai Tiedao University. He joined the Communist Party of China in December 1997. On July 15, 1998, on his way back to his hometown, Chen Ruisheng heroically sacrificed himself while rescuing two drowning teenagers. His life goal was “to make the greatest contribution to the largest number of people in my lifetime.” After his death, the Ministry of Railways, Shanghai Municipal Government, and his university’s Party and Youth League organizations all honored him and issued study notices. He was posthumously awarded the “May Fourth Youth Medal” and recognized as a “New Long March Pioneer” by Shanghai. On February 5, 1999, the Ministry of Education issued an honorary decision to award Chen Ruisheng and three other college students the title of “Outstanding College Students Who Sacrificed Themselves to Save Others.” On April 5, 1999, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the National Federation of Students posthumously awarded Chen Ruisheng and two other students the title of “Outstanding Youth Who Sacrificed Themselves to Save Others.” On June 28, 1999, the People's Government of Henan Province posthumously recognized him as a revolutionary martyr.
