Changshou New Village

Changshou New Village serves as a patriotic education base.

Formerly known as "Yaoshui Lane" and "Lime Kiln," it was once an area of old shanties and makeshift houses. After the liberation, residents’ living conditions improved to some extent with the introduction of water and electricity, installation of streetlights, laying of drainage pipes, paving of roads, construction of public toilets, demolition of some dilapidated houses, and renovation of simple two- and three-story public housing. However, these efforts still could not fully meet the residents’ needs. In the 1980s, the Shanghai Municipal Government listed "Yaoshui Lane" as one of the city’s 23 old district housing redevelopment sites. The renovation began in July 1985, covering a total land area of 106,000 square meters. Over the course of ten years of construction, a total of 3,581 households and 75 organizations were relocated, and residential buildings with a total floor space of 255,300 square meters—comprising both low-rise and high-rise structures—were constructed. The green coverage rate reached 12.24%. Alongside the old housing redevelopment, Changde Road, Yichang Road, and Aomen Road were extended and widened. Municipal infrastructure such as an 110,000-volt substation and the Yejiazhai pumping station were also built, resolving a series of issues in the area including water supply, electricity, and telecommunications. The redevelopment was completed in December 1995 and was officially named Changshou New Village by the Municipal Place Names Committee. In that year, 3,558 families totaling 13,520 people moved into their new homes.
