The Exhibition Hall of the History of the Underground Communist Party of China in Shanghai & Former Residence of Liu Changsheng is a municipal cultural heritage site, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Exhibition Hall of the History of the Underground Communist Party of China in Shanghai & Former Residence of Liu Changsheng is located at No. 81 Yuyuan Road. It was one of the secret offices of the CPC Shanghai Bureau during that time and also served as the residence of Comrade Liu Changsheng from 1946 to 1949 while he engaged in underground revolutionary activities in Shanghai. It officially opened to the public on May 27, 2004.

Covering an area of 239 square meters with a construction area of 927 square meters, the exhibition hall has three floors of display areas: the ground floor mainly introduces the scenes of three secret liaison points of the underground CPC in Shanghai during the 1930s and 1940s; the second and third floors focus on five major thematic displays: “The Establishment of the Local CPC Organization in Shanghai,” “Relentless and Indomitable Struggle,” “Carrying Out the Anti-Japanese Salvation Movement,” “Striving for Peace and Democracy Against Civil War,” and “Liberating Shanghai Through Coordinated Internal and External Efforts.” Through a series of presentation methods such as oil paintings, sculptures, relics, physical exhibits, scene reconstructions, situational simulations, and film montages, it showcases the heroic deeds of Shanghai’s underground workers and traces the development and struggle of the CPC’s underground organization in Shanghai.

Liu Changsheng (1903–1967), also known as Wang Xiangbao, was an organizer and leader of the Chinese labor movement and an international activist. He was from Sundun Village, Haiyang County (now Haiyang City). Liu Changsheng came from a poor family in his childhood. In 1921, he followed his uncle to Vladivostok, where he worked as a leather craftsman, shop assistant, and dockworker. After the October Revolution in Russia, he organized workers in the Far East to join the volunteer army and participated in the fight to defend the Soviet regime. In October 1924, he joined the Lenin Communist Youth League. In May 1927, he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolsheviks), and later became a member of the Communist Party of China.
