Former Site of the Sihang Warehouse Battle

The Former Site of the Sihang Warehouse Battle is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, and a patriotic education base.

"Sihang" is the abbreviated term for four former Shanghai banks: Yien Yieh Commercial Bank, Kincheng Banking Corporation, Chungking Bank, and Dah Sing Bank. These formed a private financial capital group north of the Yangtze River and were commonly referred to as the "Northern Four Banks," in contrast to the "Southern Four Banks"—Bank of Shanghai, Zhejiang Industrial Bank, Zhejiang Commercial Bank, and National Commercial & Savings Bank. Yien Yieh Bank was established in 1915, Kincheng Banking Corporation set up a branch in Shanghai in 1917, Chungking Bank was founded in 1921, and Dah Sing Bank opened a branch in Shanghai in 1920.

In September 1985, the Sihang Warehouse was designated as a Shanghai Revolutionary Base by the Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Management Committee. In 1992, it was listed as an Outstanding Historical Building of Shanghai. In August 1995, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the "Exhibition Hall of the Heroic Deeds of the Eight Hundred Heroes in the Anti-Japanese War" was built with funding from Yibai Group and executed by the Zhabei District Culture Bureau. Wang Daohan, the then Mayor of Shanghai, inscribed the name for the exhibition room.

Shanghai’s only well-preserved wartime site—the Sihang Warehouse Battle Memorial—invites visitors to revisit history, honor the martyrs, remember the aggression, and never forget national humiliation.

The memorial is divided into six sections: the Preface Hall, "Bloody Battle of Songhu," "Defending Sihang," "Lone Regiment's Resistance," "Immortal Monument," and the Epilogue Hall. Walking from the Preface Hall inward feels like a journey back in time to that era.

The memorial begins with a family letter written by Xie Jinyuan to his wife, Ling Weicheng, before heading to the Songhu battlefield. It showcases the patriotism of the "Eight Hundred Heroes," led by Xie Jinyuan, who put the nation above family in times of crisis, reflecting their firm determination to achieve victory in the war.

The exhibits and panels in the Sihang Warehouse Battle Memorial are meticulously crafted, realistic, and well-documented in detail. Visiting this museum, which authentically recreates history, is truly meaningful.

On October 7, 2019, the Former Site of the Sihang Warehouse Battle was included in the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
