The Site of the Secret Liaison Office of the Central Branch of the Tongmenghui is a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai.

The Site of the Secret Liaison Office of the Central Branch of the Tongmenghui is located at No. 61 Zhejiang North Road. In order to plan revolutionary activities in the provinces along the Yangtze River, in April 1911, Song Jiaoren, Tan Renfeng, Chen Qimei, and others met in Shanghai to discuss the establishment of the Central Branch of the Chinese Tongmenghui. On July 31, 1911, the founding assembly was held at Hubei Primary School on North Sichuan Road in Shanghai, attended by 33 people. The meeting passed the “Declaration of the Founding of the Central Branch of the Chinese Tongmenghui,” the “Charter of the Central Branch of the Chinese Tongmenghui,” as well as the “Interim Charter of the General Affairs Committee” and the “Charter of the Branches.” Chen Qimei, Pan Zuyi, Song Jiaoren, Tan Renfeng, and Yang Pusheng were elected as members of the General Affairs Committee, overseeing five departments: general affairs, finance, documentation, communications, and accounting. After the establishment of the Central Branch, a secret liaison office was set up at Xinchang Li, north of Zhejiang Road Bridge (today’s No. 61 Zhejiang North Road), which was the residence of Yang Xinzhi, the elder brother of Yang Pusheng, a then-committee member of the headquarters. The site covers an area of over one mu, featuring a traditional Chinese courtyard house with a small garden in the center. The southern part consists of a two-story Western-style building with five bays, which later served as the campus of the Huzhou Residents’ Shanghai Public School. The northern part is a traditional Chinese structure: the front section is a flower hall, the middle section is a building with upstairs rooms, and the rear section includes three additional arcaded rooms. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the original site was used by the Second Primary School of Zhejiang North Road. Later, structures such as the flower hall and corridors were gradually demolished and replaced with a playground and teaching buildings.
