Jing'an Tianfei Palace is a cultural heritage site protected by Jing'an District.

Tianfei Palace

Located at No. 3 Henan North Road, Tianfei Palace was built upon the petition of Chong Hou, an envoy to Russia, by the Qing government and completed in the 10th year of the Guangxu reign (1884). The temple faces south and features a north–south axial symmetry. From south to north, the structures include the main gate tower, stage, east and west wing rooms (viewing stands), bell and drum pavilions, the Hall of the Heavenly Queen (Tianfei Hall), bedroom tower, covering an area of approximately 4.8 mu. The screen wall and main gate, built from blue bricks, feature exquisite and delicate brick carvings of landscapes and imitation bracket sets. The hipped-roof stage is adorned with gilded double-ang bracket arms and an exquisitely elegant domed caisson ceiling decorated with dragons playing with pearls. The Heavenly Queen Hall has upturned eaves, robust beams and columns, and carved railings and painted beams, presenting a beauty that balances strength and grace. Between the stage and the main hall lies a delicately designed courtyard. During the Republican era, Tianfei Palace was used successively as the office of the Kuomintang’s Third District Party Headquarters, the school building of Shumin Primary School, a refugee shelter, and a public gathering place. In 1978, due to the construction of Shanxi Middle School, the Tianfei Hall was relocated to Songjiang Square Pagoda Park, and the pair of stone lions at the gate were moved to the entrance of Yu Garden. In 2006, during the expansion of Henan Road Bridge and the construction of Line 8’s Tiantong Road Station, the structure was dismantled, with components preserved for future reconstruction.
