Jiulong Tourist Area

The Jiulong Tourist Area is centered around Zhaoyuan Town in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, and mainly consists of natural attractions such as Wangqing Mountain, Sifangtan, Black Mountain, Chicken Heart Beach, Jiangxin Island, Sifang Mountain, the Zhaoyuan Wharf on the Songhua River, and Miaojialiangzi. This area primarily features the scenery along the Songhua River, with the Huanghai (sturgeon) Circle at its core, showcasing the unique fish culture of Zhaoyuan County — where the Songhua and Nen Rivers meet — through listening to fish, watching fish, talking about fish, and eating fish.

The “Nine Dragons” refer to the nine earthen mounds surrounding Zhaoyuan Town: Laoheshan, Wangqing Mountain, Erlongshan, Sifang Mountain, Jixinggang, Mutougang, Mingzigang, Dailonggang, and Heigangzi. The name “Nine Dragons” originally comes from a local legend, which says a feng shui master identified the nine mounds around Zhaoyuan as a site guarded by nine dragons. Later historical records also state that the Qing Dynasty chose this “dragon-guarded land” to establish Zhaoyuan Town with the goal of “revitalizing commerce in the future.” The name “Jiulong” has been used ever since.

Chicken Heart Beach is located to the south of Zhaoyuan Town, on the left bank of the Songhua River, adjacent to Black Mountain. It lies 3.2 kilometers along the waterway from Zhaoyuan Port. With a beach length of 2,600 meters, a maximum width of 320 meters, and an area of 65 hectares, it gets its name from its chicken-heart shape. The golden sand, emerald river water, and natural bathing beach form a simple and beautiful natural setting.

Black Mountain and Wangqing Mountain are the core attractions of the Jiulong Tourist Area. Blessed with picturesque terrain and lush vegetation, they serve as natural hunting and bathing grounds. In the peak of summer, they attract a large number of tourists for swimming and sightseeing, while hunters visit all year round. There are also two man-made attractions: Dongshan Cemetery and Xihai Park. Dongshan Cemetery is now well-developed and bustling with temple fair visitors and worshippers during the Qingming Festival. Xihai Park is a public recreation area, popular among seniors for leisure activities in the early morning and evening.

Transportation by Bus: Take a bus to Zhaoyuan Town from Daqing or use a tourist shuttle service.

Self-Drive Route: From Daqing, head in the direction of Datong and get on the Da-Guang Expressway. After driving 11.9 km, exit at Zhaoyuan, then drive 1.8 km before turning left onto S201. Continue for 4.5 km, then enter Guo’erluosi Street and drive 290 m. Turn right onto Xihuan Street, drive 1.4 km, then turn right onto Government Street and drive 1.7 km to reach the destination.

Covering a total area of 240 square kilometers, it administers 11 residential communities, 10 administrative villages, and 44 natural hamlets, with a total population of 81,000, including 23,000 agricultural residents. The town has 70,000 mu of arable land, including 50,000 mu of paddy fields and 10,000 mu of specialty cash crops. With fertile soil and abundant natural resources, the land here is divided among cultivated fields, water bodies, and grassland. It has 30,000 mu of water area and 20,000 mu of grassland, scattered with ponds and crisscrossed by fields, earning it the reputation of a “Land of Fish and Rice.” ...
