Daqing Lotus Lake Scenic Area

Daqing Lotus Lake Scenic Area is a national wetland park.

Lotus Lake was formed during the Quaternary Ice Age, a crescent-shaped lake left behind after the Songhua River changed course in the Pleistocene epoch of the Quaternary period. It consists of eastern and western sections, covering a total area of 1,800 mu. The planting of lotus flowers in Lotus Lake began in the late 18th century. When in full bloom, the lake is covered with lush, translucent green leaves and brilliantly colored blossoms, presenting a spectacular sight. In 1998, Zhao Yuan County designated July 18 as the Lotus Festival. Every year during July and August, nearly 100,000 tourists visit to admire the beautiful “Lotus Fairies.”

What makes Lotus Lake unique is that even in the peak of summer, it offers a lotus pond scenery reminiscent of the water towns of southern China. The Lotus Lake Scenic Area features forests, lakes, islands, and cliffs as its main attractions. Within the area, there are three major canyons, four large lake bays, five scenic zones, seven major islands, and over thirty key attractions.

The shores of Lotus Lake feature undulating peaks, steep cliffs, and dense forests. Natural wonders such as Eagle Beak Peak and Divine Turtle Rock add a sense of magic and charm to the landscape. The scenery at Lotus Lake varies beautifully with the seasons. In spring, the hillsides turn yellowish-green, dotted with blooming wildflowers, creating a delightful contrast. In summer, the landscape is lush and vibrant, with serene waters and forests offering an ideal retreat for cooling off and relaxation. In autumn, frost-kissed cliffs and colorful forests present a rich tapestry of hues, along with an abundance of mountain and lake delicacies, making it a prime season for travel and gourmet experiences. In winter, the snow-blanketed forests and plains transform the area into a perfect destination for enjoying northern China’s winter scenery and winter sports.

Transportation by Bus: Take a bus from Daqing to Zhao Yuan County, then transfer to a taxi or hire a car to reach the scenic area.

Self-driving Route: From Daqing, get on the Da-Guang Expressway, drive 119.4 km, exit at Zhao Yuan, turn left onto S201, drive 970 meters along Dongshan Street, turn left onto X019, drive 16.5 km, turn left onto Xin Shuguang Jie, drive 1.5 km, turn right onto Lianhua Road, drive 3.2 km, turn left and drive 3.9 km, then turn right and drive 450 meters to reach the destination.
