The Tomb of Unnamed Revolutionary Martyrs in Xiapingshi Village, Da’an Town

The Tomb of Unnamed Revolutionary Martyrs in Xiapingshi Village, Da’an Town, is located one li east of Xiapingshi Village, Da’an Town, Tonghua County, approximately 10 kilometers from Da’an Village, where the town government is headquartered. The tomb covers an area of 60 square meters, with a protected area of the same size.

From December 1946 to April 1947, the Kuomintang, driven by its ambition to occupy the Northeast, adopted the offensive strategy of “advancing south first and then north, attacking the south while defending the north.” It assembled a large force to launch four major offensives against the Changbai Mountain base centered around the Linjiang area. Under the command of Chen Yun, Political Commissar of the Liaodong Military Region, Xiao Jinguang, Commander, and Xiao Hua, Deputy Commander of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army, and following the operational strategy of “holding southern Manchuria, consolidating northern Manchuria, and coordinating attacks and supports between the south and the north,” the army achieved a great victory in the “Four Battles for Linjiang.” The second and third defenses of Linjiang mainly took place within Tonghua County, with the main participating forces being the 3rd and 4th Columns of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army. The 3rd Column served as the main assault force, while the 4th Column was responsible for blocking and intercepting enemy reinforcements. On January 30, 1947, the Kuomintang forces launched their second offensive against the Linjiang area with three divisions. Through close coordination among our troops, by February 8, over 5,200 Kuomintang soldiers were annihilated, crushing the enemy’s second attack. On February 13, 1947, the Kuomintang forces mustered nearly all available mobile troops, deploying almost four divisions to launch an even larger-scale offensive against the Linjiang area. Our forces fought bravely, and by March 24, this campaign resulted in the elimination of more than 14,000 Kuomintang troops. Although both defensive battles achieved significant victories, our forces also sustained considerable casualties. In various towns and villages across Tonghua County, there are tombs for the martyrs of the “Four Battles for Linjiang,” primarily housing the remains of soldiers from the 3rd and 4th Columns of the Liaodong Military Region of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army who sacrificed their lives. Da’an Town was once an important battlefield, and the tomb in Xiapingshi Village is the resting place of three soldiers who died during the Third Battle for Linjiang. The inscription on the tombstone reads: Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs.

Constructed in the spring of 1947 and utilized in the autumn of 1949. The site has received general protection and utilization.
