New Taipei City’s Local Specialties Map Goes Cartoon Style – Yellow Rubber Duck Endorses Jinshan Duck Meat

To break away from the rigid impression of traditional maps, the New Taipei City Civil Affairs Bureau has created a “Local Specialties Map” in cartoon style, using Q-version characters combined with a KUSO approach to introduce the city. Even popular topics such as the Yellow Rubber Duck and Mama Mouth Coffee are featured on the map.

The front of the map uses an old nautical chart as its background, introducing 29 administrative districts of New Taipei City. Each district features 3 to 4 aspects of local culture and customs. The cartoonish and humorous presentation leaves a deep impression. For example, someone resembling former President Lee Teng-hui is seated in front of an old house introducing Sanzhi, while the currently popular Yellow Rubber Duck is used to endorse Jinshan duck meat. The historic Li Family Residence in Luzhou shows two toddlers playing at a one-year-old grab ceremony. Pingxi sky lanterns and Yingge ceramics are depicted with elements reminiscent of the movies “You Are the Apple of My Eye” and “Ghost.”

The Civil Affairs Bureau stated that the initial print run of the special map will be 10,000 copies, which will be distributed to government offices and schools next month. Recently, many community groups and schools have called to request copies. The bureau will decide whether to print more copies for public distribution based on future demand.
