The Tomb of the Unnamed Revolutionary Martyrs in Gangu Village, Ermi Town

The Tomb of the Unnamed Revolutionary Martyrs in Gangu Village, Ermi Town, is located on the slope of Banjiegumen, 1.5 kilometers east of Gangu Village in Ermi Town, northern Tonghua County, and about 12 kilometers from Ermi Village, where the town government is situated. It covers an area of 160 square meters, with a protected area of the same size.

On January 30, 1947, the Nationalist army launched their second offensive against our Linjiang region with three divisions. Our participating troops cooperated closely and by February 8 had annihilated over 5,200 enemy soldiers, thwarting the enemy’s second offensive. On February 13, 1947, the Nationalist army assembled all available mobile forces—nearly four divisions—for an even larger-scale attack on the Linjiang region. Our troops fought valiantly, and by March 24, this campaign had resulted in the annihilation of more than 14,000 Nationalist troops. Although both defensive battles achieved major victories, our forces also suffered significant casualties. In various towns and villages across Tonghua County, there are tombs for the revolutionary martyrs of the “Four Defenses of Linjiang” campaign. The Tomb of the Unnamed Revolutionary Martyrs in Gangu Village, Ermi Town, holds the remains of 11 soldiers from the 3rd and 4th Columns of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army who died in battle, as well as the remains of one martyr, Zuo Kuoyuan, a soldier from the People’s Liberation Army’s 80714 Unit who sacrificed his life while supporting the left-wing during the Cultural Revolution.
