Remains of the Huijiagou Anti-Japanese Allied Forces Secret Camp

The remains of the Huijiagou Anti-Japanese Allied Forces secret camp are located within the River Anti-Japanese Base Area, to the west of Mengjia Village in the northeast of Xinglin Town, Tonghua County. They lie in the forested mountains more than 10 kilometers from the town government seat, covering a protected area of 500 square meters. The camp is situated on a slope about 5 kilometers from the mouth of the valley. The site is 6 meters wide from north to south and 11 meters long from east to west. On the eastern side there are remnants of a stove, and 10 meters further east lies a single millstone. At this location, artifacts such as helmets, clay teapots, bronze basins, and bayonets have been discovered, which are now housed in the Jilin Provincial Revolutionary Museum. To the south, there is a leveled area excavated from the mountain, roughly square-shaped, measuring over 10 meters in both length and width, which served as a training ground for anti-Japanese soldiers at that time.

In November 1933, the Independent Division arrived in the Heili area of Jinjiang County. Due to the region’s high mountains, dense forests, complex terrain, remote location, and its position at the junction of Jinjiang, Liuhe, Tonghua, and Linjiang, the Japanese puppet forces had relatively weak control. As a result, Yang Jingyu led his troops to establish the renowned River Anti-Japanese Base Area here. The Huijiagou in the western part of Mengjiagou in the northeastern Xinglin Town was the central zone of this base. The base included secret camps where soldiers of the First Route Army could rest and undergo training. Based on the investigation of historical relics, it can be confirmed with certainty that the Huijiagou secret camp was one of them—it was centrally located within the base and was relatively large in scale.

Formed between autumn 1933 and autumn 1936, and in use until autumn 1965. Over the years, due to lack of protection and maintenance, no buildings remain at the site, which has suffered severe corrosion and damage from natural factors.
