The Battle Site of the Ambush on Japanese Puppet Military Vehicles at Ermi River is located beside the road in Wanyanzizi Gully at Xichagoumen on the west bank of the Ermi River in Ermi Town, Tonghua County, 7 kilometers from Ermi Village, the seat of the town government. The site lies at the foot of a hilly slope and is now used as farmland by local farmers.

On September 6, 1934, the headquarters of the Independent Division of the 1st Army of the Northeast People’s Revolutionary Army was returning from Xingjing (now Xinbin County, Liaoning Province) to the Heli Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base. After joining forces with the troops led by Han Hao, commander of the 3rd Regiment of the Independent Division, they received important intelligence: approximately 20 Japanese puppet military vehicles loaded with fuel, electrical materials, and other military supplies traveled daily along the road between Tonghua and Liuhe. After careful investigation and in-depth analysis, the Independent Division decided to eliminate this enemy force. On the morning of September 16, under the command of Commander Yang Jingyu and Chief of Staff Li Hongguang, Han Hao led two companies (the 8th and 9th) of the 3rd Regiment, totaling more than 160 soldiers, to ambush the road near Xichagoumen and Wanyanzizi Gully on the west bank of the Ermi River in Tonghua County. Around 9:00 a.m., 21 enemy vehicles escorted by Japanese puppet troops approached from the direction of Tonghua County. When the vehicles entered the ambush zone, Han Hao ordered the soldiers of the Independent Division to launch an immediate attack. After more than two hours of fierce fighting, the battle ended in a final victory. A total of 14 Japanese puppet troops were killed (3 Japanese and 9 White Russians), and 15 were wounded (including 9 Japanese). The division captured 4 rifles, 1 machine gun, and 2 handguns.
