Former Site of the Dongsheng Branch

The former site of the Dongsheng Branch is a classic red tourism attraction.

The former site of the Dongsheng Branch is located in Dongsheng Village, about 3 kilometers northeast of Guanghua Town, Tonghua County, and 3 kilometers from Guanghua Village, where the town government is situated.

In the autumn of 1931, the first communist party organization in Tonghua County—the Eighth District Branch of the CPC Tonghua County Committee—was destroyed by Japanese puppet forces, bringing the development and activities of the communist organizations in Tonghua County to a halt. On October 27, 1933, following instructions from the CPC Manchuria Provincial Committee, Yang Jingyu led the Independent Division of the First Army of the Northeast People’s Revolutionary Army across the Huifa River heading south to establish a new anti-Japanese guerrilla zone in southern Manchuria. By the end of November, they had entered the Heli area of Jin County (mainly in what is now Xinglin Town, Tonghua County), establishing the renowned Heli Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base. Tonghua County became an important anti-Japanese guerrilla zone in southern Manchuria. Thanks to the active organization and widespread mobilization efforts of the anti-Japanese forces, patriotic citizens in Tonghua County quickly grew fervent in their resistance against the Japanese puppet regime, leading to the growth and strengthening of both the Party organization and mass-based anti-Japanese groups. In early 1934, Company Commander Park Se-hwan of the Independent Division, through organizing and mobilizing locals, established the CPC Dongsheng Branch in Dongsheng Village, Eighth District, Tonghua County (present-day Dongsheng Village, Guanghua Town, Tonghua County). Park Se-hwan served as the branch secretary, and the branch had six members: Park Se-hwan, Wang Fushan, Wang Dongtang, Yu Fucai, Wang Hai, and an individual surnamed Liu. By the end of 1934, Japanese puppet forces fully implemented the “collective settlement” policy, severing the connections between anti-Japanese forces, Party organizations, and the masses. They also used traitors, spies, police, and collaborators to work with Japanese garrisons in frenzied arrests and killings of underground Party members and anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians, undermining and dismantling our Party organizations. On May 7, 1935, Park Se-hwan, Secretary of the CPC Tonghua District Committee, was arrested and defected when apprehended by the Japanese garrison while reorganizing the “Anti-Japanese Association” in the Eighth District of Tonghua County; he revealed the organizational structure, member list, and activities of the CPC Eighth District Committee in Tonghua County. Soon after, Yu Fucai, a member of the CPC Dongsheng Branch in Tonghua County, was also arrested and defected, disclosing the full list of all Dongsheng Branch members, leading to the complete destruction of the branch.

This site was formed in early 1934 and put into use in July 2010.
