Fùjiāng Township Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery
The Fùjiāng Township Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism attraction.
The Fùjiāng Township Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is located at the foot of a mountain 1 kilometer northwest of Fú'ěrjiāng Village, the seat of Fùjiāng Township Government in Tōnghuà County. It covers an area of 3,300 square meters, with a protected area of the same size. The cemetery was built to commemorate the 48 revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Third Linjiang Defense Battle in the “Four Defenses of Linjiang” campaign, and was completed in November 1968.
From December 1946 to April 1947, in an attempt to occupy the Northeast, the Kuomintang forces, following their aggressive strategy of “attacking the south first and then the north, defending the north while attacking the south,” assembled large troops and launched four major offensives against the Changbai Mountain base centered around the Linjiang region. Under the command of Chen Yun, Political Commissar of the Liaodong Military District, Xiao Jinguang, Commander, and Xiao Hua, Deputy Commander of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army, and adhering to the combat strategy of holding southern Manchuria, consolidating northern Manchuria, and “fighting south while pulling north, fighting north while pulling south,” the army achieved a great victory in the “Four Defenses of Linjiang” campaign. The second and third Linjiang Defense Battles mainly took place within the territory of Tōnghuà County. The main forces involved were the 3rd and 4th Columns of the Liaodong Military District of the Northeast Democratic Allied Army, with the 3rd Column leading the assault and the 4th Column responsible for blocking and reinforcing. On February 13, 1947, after two failed attempts to invade Linjiang, the Kuomintang forces, personally commanded by Du Yuming, Commander of the Northeast Security Headquarters, launched a third large-scale offensive on the Linjiang region with nearly four divisions. The Northeast Democratic Allied Army continued to deploy the 3rd Column as the main assault force, supported by the 4th Column. On March 17, to assist the 4th Column in annihilating the enemy in Tōnghuà, the 3rd Column deployed its 7th and 9th Divisions to advance into the areas of present-day Sānkēyúshù Town and Fùjiāng Township in Tōnghuà County to engage and intercept enemy reinforcements. At 10:00 on March 23, they completely wiped out the 5th Regiment of the 2nd Division of the Kuomintang’s 52nd Army, which had just arrived and was not yet well-positioned in Wàngqīngmén, present-day Xīnbīn County, Liáoníng Province. The regimental commander Guō Yǒng was killed, and the deputy regimental commander Tán Wénxīn was captured. Although the battle achieved a significant victory, the participating forces also suffered considerable casualties. In this engagement, 48 officers and soldiers from the 7th and 9th Divisions of the 3rd Column sacrificed their lives heroically and were buried in the Fùjiāng Township Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery in Tōnghuà County.
Constructed in March 1947 and put into use in November 1968. The site has been well preserved and utilized, with a total investment of 50,000 yuan, and is currently in good condition. (Provided by the Party School of Tōnghuà County Committee of the CPC)
