Site of the River Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base
The Site of the River Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base is a classic destination for red tourism.
The Site of the River Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base is located in the middle section of the Longgang Mountain Range of Changbai Mountain, at the junction of Liuhe County, Baishan City, and Tonghua County. It lies to the northeast within the territory of Xinglin Town, Tonghua County, in the mountain forests over 10 kilometers from Dahuanggou Village, the seat of the town government. The protected area spans 5,000 square meters. Currently, only photos document the location of the site. Due to natural factors such as weathering and corrosion, along with years of neglect in terms of manual protection and maintenance, the remains of the secret camps within the base have ceased to exist.
In accordance with the directives of the Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, on October 27, 1933, Yang Jingyu led the Independent Division of the First Army of the Northeast People's Revolutionary Army in crossing the Huifa River southward to establish a new anti-Japanese guerrilla zone, arriving in the River area of Jin County in November. "River" refers to the mountainous upstream region of the Hani River in the middle section of the Longgang Mountain Range of Changbai Mountain, an area bordering Jin County, Liuhe, Tonghua, and Linjiang. With its high mountains, dense forests, complex terrain, and remote location, it was an ideal place for concealment and combat. Yang Jingyu set up the renowned River Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base here, with its center located within the territory of present-day Xinglin Town, Tonghua County. The base served as an important venue for the South Manchuria Party organization to convene key meetings and for anti-Japanese forces to rest and train. It housed rear management offices, a temporary hospital, an arms repair workshop, a clothing factory, grain storage points, and the Huijiagou secret camp. From autumn 1933 to autumn 1936, Yang Jingyu relied on the base to mobilize the masses, establish Party organizations and various anti-Japanese groups, and flexibly wage guerrilla warfare against the Japanese. He helped establish the South Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and formed the First Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, dealing a heavy blow to the arrogance of the invaders and setting up an immortal monument in the history of the resistance war in the northeast. In autumn 1936, the Japanese puppet forces launched a large-scale “Independent Eastern Border Campaign” with heavy troops, prompting the First Army of the Anti-Japanese United Army to leave the River and move to fight in the Laoling Mountain area.
Formed from the end of 1933 to autumn 1936, awaiting development and utilization.
