Located at 435 kilometers and 10 meters along the Jilin-Shenyang Railway, it was an important freight station of the Jilin Railway Sub-bureau. In 1929, Zhang Zuoxiang, then governor of Jilin Province, built the Jilin General Station building while constructing the Jihai Railway in resistance to Japanese influence. Designed by the renowned Chinese craft artist and architect Lin Huiyin and reviewed by world-famous architectural master Liang Sicheng, it is a large gabled-roof building featuring German-style design.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) announced the Former Site of Jihai Railway General Station as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
