Introduction: "Langya Dam" (also known as the Mud Forest) is located in the western part of Qian'an County, Songyuan City, Jilin Province. When viewed from the east, Langya Dam features jagged ridges and towering, uniquely shaped peaks that create a majestic and imposing sight, resembling a stern ancient fortress. Its continuous battlements look as if soldiers are standing guard, ready for battle. The area is crisscrossed with ravines and rolling hills, with tens of thousands of mud pillars densely packed like a forest, ridge upon ridge connected as far as the eye can see. The steep earthen walls come in various shapes, exuding an eerie chill and giving visitors the sensation of being in a deep, secluded valley—like stepping into a primordial park. The mud pillars and forest-like earth formations, with their sawtooth-like shapes and wolf-tooth-like structures, are interconnected and stretch across the land from north to south. Hence, locals call it "Langya Dam" (Wolf-Tooth Dam). Visitors often say, "In the south, there’s Guilin; in the north, there’s the Mud Forest." Streams flow gently through the dam's gullies, adding a special charm to the experience. Here, you can taste the pure white ice from icy springs, experiencing the unique allure of the northern winter. There are also natural springs with crystal-clear water rich in beneficial minerals that can cure various ailments—truly nature’s treasure and a unique wonder of the world. Though the area lacks towering mountains or dense forests, everywhere you look, there are steep cliffs and oddly shaped peaks. Beneath the mud forest, small streams often meander along the contours of the hills, flowing continuously with clear mountain spring water. The slopes of the mud forest are covered with intact vegetation, dense weeds, and thriving trees with lush foliage that create a vibrant, colorful natural landscape. In summer, the valley turns emerald green, dotted with blooming wildflowers and alive with birdsong. Deep within the mud forest, you can fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of nature, making it a place visitors never want to leave. Its unique natural scenery has attracted numerous domestic and international archaeologists and experts who have conducted excavations and research here. Despite years of weathering, the mud forest landscape has been remarkably well-preserved throughout history, retaining its original charm. Today’s Langya Dam is home to a variety of rare flowers and plants, with reeds swaying on the lakes and serving as a habitat for migratory birds, rabbits, foxes, wolves, snakes, and other wildlife. In March 1994, the Dabusu Langya Dam was officially designated as the Songyuan City Dabusu Langya Dam Nature Reserve by the provincial government.
