Garden Lake

One of the lakes on the gentle plateau of Changbai Mountain, covering an area of about 4 hectares. The Ruo Liu River, which flows out from the northern end of Garden Lake, runs southeast for about 3 kilometers before joining the Red Earth Water at the eastern foot of Chifeng Mountain to form the Tumen River. Garden Lake is also known as Buri Lake or "Heavenly Maiden Bathing." Legend has it that this is the place where three heavenly maidens descended to bathe. The youngest of the three sisters, Fekulen, after bathing, swallowed a red fruit and became pregnant, giving birth to a boy with extraordinary features who could speak at birth. His mother told him that his surname was Aisin Gioro and his name was Bukūri Yongšon. It is said that the Manchu people originated from him. In the 30th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty, Liu Jianfeng, a provisional magistrate of Fengtian, investigated the entire territory of Antu in preparation for establishing a county government. After locating Garden Lake along the ridge of the Laoling Mountains, he had a stone stele erected by the lake in July of the first year of the Xuantong reign, inscribed with “Heavenly Maiden Bathing Site,” so that everyone could witness the legendary place.
