A 10-year-old boy surnamed Long (a pseudonym) was knocked flying by another child while skiing at an amusement ski park. His parents believe the accident occurred because the resort had not yet closed, yet the staff guiding skiers had left early.
Yesterday afternoon around 3 p.m., Mr. Fang took his son DouDou (a pseudonym) and his friend’s child, Long, to the Luyuan Ski Amusement Park in Heping District, Shenyang. When entering the park, Mr. Fang purchased 80-yuan ski tickets for the two children and also rented two sets of ski equipment.
Around 4:30 p.m., another visitor, Ms. Yu, arrived at the ski park with her 12-year-old son Lele (a pseudonym). Ms. Yu said, “There weren’t many people at the ski park at the time, and the three kids were about the same age, so they quickly started playing together.”
What no one expected was that an accident happened ten minutes later. According to Mr. Fang, “I was at the top of the slope with DouDou and Long. The two kids got ready and then skied down one after the other. At that moment, Lele, who had arrived at the top with his mom, also followed and skied down from the slope. Long, who reached the bottom first, was just getting up when he was knocked over from behind by Lele, who came rushing down. Long fell face down onto the ice. Seeing him fall, I ran down the slope. At that time, Long was covered in blood.”
Mr. Fang showed reporters the ski tickets he had purchased for the two children. The tickets clearly indicated “Deposit 100, 15:00–17:00.” Mr. Fang said those words were written on afterward—the 100-yuan deposit was for renting ski equipment, and the time period was marked afterward.
Mr. Fang recalled that at 4:40 p.m., 20 minutes before the ski park’s closing time, the staff had already started clearing the area. “Previously there were always staff members at the top of the slope guiding the children, but at that time, no one was there. In fact, it wasn’t yet the time stated on the ticket.” Mr. Fang believes the ski park is responsible for the accident because the staff left their posts before closing time.
At around 6:30 p.m. last night, about two hours after the incident, Long was taken to the hospital. Lele’s mother and a staff member surnamed Xiao from the ski park went to the hospital together. Lele’s mother believed her son should not be held responsible for the accident. “We came to the ski park to consume and have fun, and Lele didn’t intentionally knock into Long.” She also emphasized that when she and Lele arrived at the top of the slope, she did not see any staff members responsible for guiding skiers.
Mr. Xiao from the ski park stated that the ski park does indeed bear responsibility, and further discussions can be held regarding medical expenses.
