Julong Spring
Julong Spring is located on the northern slope of Changbai Mountain, about 900 meters from the Changbai Waterfall. Within an area of 10 square meters, over 30 springs gush out. According to measurements by scientists, the water temperature can reach up to 82°C. Here, no matter the season, steam rises incessantly and mist swirls around. Especially in the harsh winter, against the backdrop of the snow-covered landscape, the hot springs are veiled in clouds and mist, resembling a mystical fairyland. The minerals deposited around the springs over the years come in various colors—red, brownish-red, yellow, blue, and green—creating a beautiful ceramic-like effect. A faint smell of sulfur lingers in the air. Pearl-like bubbles rise to the surface, making popping sounds like a boiling kettle. If you look closely, the grass near the springs remains fresh and emerald green even in such conditions. If visitors wish, they can even take an open-air bath in the midst of heavy snowfall—it’s truly a delightful experience.
These hot springs are living proof that the residual heat from the magma following the volcanic eruption of Changbai Mountain has not yet dissipated, or in other words, volcanic activity still exists deep underground.
When visiting Julong Spring, it’s highly recommended to try eggs boiled in the hot spring. Perhaps due to some kind of chemical reaction, the yolks are solid while the whites remain soft. There’s also a subtle sulfur aroma, and when eaten with a sprinkle of salt, they have a uniquely delicious flavor.
The spring water contains a relatively high amount of sulfides, which dye the surrounding rocks and gravel in shades of golden yellow, azure blue, crimson red, and emerald green. These shimmering, multicolored stones emit rising steam, creating a particularly pleasing sight for visitors. Especially in winter, when the surroundings are blanketed in silver and ice, this place remains filled with steam and mist—offering a truly unique and picturesque scene.
The Changbai hot springs are known as the “Divine Water” and hold significant medical and health benefits. Tests show that the spring water contains dozens of beneficial elements and minerals. It can help relax muscles and improve blood circulation, expel cold, and prevent illness, especially showing remarkable efficacy in treating arthritis, skin diseases, and more. There are hot spring bathing pools here for visitors to use, with adjustable water temperatures. After bathing, you’ll feel especially refreshed. The hot spring baths of Changbai Mountain are acclaimed as the “Best Baths Under Heaven” and enjoy other illustrious titles.
