Bohai Zhongjing City Ruins

The Bohai Zhongjing City Ruins are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The ruins of the Bohai Zhongjing City are located in Helong City, Jilin Province, in northeastern China. They are the site of the capital city of the Bohai Kingdom during the Tang Dynasty (698–926 AD).

The layout of the Bohai Zhongjing City ruins is rectangular and divided into an inner city and an outer city, with the urban planning modeled after the layout of Chang’an City during the Tang Dynasty. The outer city measures approximately 720 meters in length and 630 meters in width. The inner city has a perimeter of about 2,000 meters, and the area inside is further divided into a southern and a northern section. Three palace ruins have been discovered along the central axis. The outer city has both southern and northern gates, and there is a moat surrounding the city. In the southeastern part of the city, remnants of an artificial pond have also been found. Artifacts unearthed at the site include stone bases, roof tiles, and patterned bricks.
