Millennium Pine Scenic Area

The Millennium Pine Scenic Area is located in Helong Village, Yanji City, at the confluence of the Hailan River and the Bulhatao River. With its crisscrossing streams and fragrant rice fields, it is the top choice for locals’ outings. The area is especially known for traditional Korean ethnic sports such as swing and seesaw, as well as live demonstrations of making rice cakes and cooking rice and small fish soup in iron pots—offerings that are particularly loved by city dwellers. Over time, people began calling this place “Little Helong.”

On the hillsides of Helong Village stand three renowned ancient trees—the Millennium Pines. These are three Korean pines, also known as triplet pines, with heights of 7.5 meters, 9.3 meters, and 10.0 meters respectively, and crown spreads of 13.0 meters, 14.0 meters, and 17.5 meters. They have been verified to be thousand-year-old pines. The elegant forms of the Millennium Pines are famous far and wide; promotional posters featuring Yanji’s Millennium Pines can be found in Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Many visitors come specifically to see them, making Helong Village a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists. In 2007, the Millennium Pine Scenic Area was rated as a National A-level Tourist Attraction.
