The Wangyugou Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base Area is located in Guchengzi Village, Yilan Township, Yanji City. It includes several larger natural villages such as Wangyugou, Nandong, Songlin Cave, and Fengshi Cave. Major sites include: the site of the office of the East Manchuria Special Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Communist Party Committee of Yanji County, the site of the Revolutionary Government of Wangyugou District, and the site of the First Regiment Headquarters of the Independent Division of the Second Army of the Northeast People’s Revolutionary Army. On November 2, 1932, the establishment of the Wangyugou District Soviet Government of the Communist Party of China marked the official founding of the Wangyugou Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base Area. In January 1933, the Yanji County Guerrilla Brigade was formed, incorporating the Wangyugou Guerrilla Team. In March 1934, the Yanji County Guerrilla Brigade was reorganized into the First Regiment of the Independent Division of the Second Army of the Northeast People’s Revolutionary Army, continuing to fight against Japanese puppet forces. From September 1933 to early 1934, Japanese invaders launched the third “major mopping-up” campaign against the Wangyugou Base Area, which dealt a heavy blow to the revolutionary forces. In January 1935, the military and civilians of the Wangyugou Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base Area moved to Sandaowan and later relocated to Chechangzi in Antu.
