Shenbei Qixing National Wetland Park

Shenbei Qixing National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Qixing Wetland Park is located in the northwest of Shenbei New District, spanning Huangjia and Shifo subdistricts, covering an area of 13,000 mu with a total investment of 200 million yuan. By constructing a basin ecological protection project that integrates "beaches, riverbanks, and water surfaces," it organically combines naturally beautiful and picturesque tourism resources with man-made landscapes to achieve the goals of wind prevention, soil conservation, water quality improvement, environmental beautification, and ecological restoration.

Qixing Wetland Park is situated along the banks of the Liao River, with the park’s landscape primarily featuring the scenic waters of the Liao River. It will become a highlight within the Qixing Tourism Economic Zone, embodying the themes of "closeness to mountains and water, returning to nature, seeking ancient traces, and celebrating diverse cultures," revitalizing the brilliance of the Liao River and serving as an important node in its protection and development.

The Liao River · Qixing Wetland Park officially opened to the public on August 21, 2012. A celebration event themed “Autumn Vine Dance – Enchanting Countryside” was also held. During the 60-day event, activities included a wetland photography contest under the same theme, a cycling rally called “Autumn Vine Dance · Cycling Trail,” a self-driving treasure hunt titled “Enchanting Countryside · Driving Fun,” and a Shenbei New District art competition covering fine arts, calligraphy, photography, and literature.

Landscape Distribution

Thousand Island Lake Connected by Hundreds of Bridges

Within the Liao River · Qixing Wetland Park, there will be a thousand beautiful small islands, each designed with a unique landscape under the concept of "one island, one scene." These include designs such as “Peach Blossom Island” and “Pear Tree Island.” There will also be a hundred uniquely shaped bridges.

Within the park, there are nearly 100 species of aquatic plants and over ten types of fish. Nearly 10,000 migratory birds fly over the park every day.

Four Major Themed Landscape Areas

The wetland park mainly features the scenic waters of the Liao River and includes four themed landscape areas.

[Liao River Flower Sea] Covering 6,000 mu, this area primarily showcases a sea of flowers along the Liao River, highlighting the beauty of the wetlands. The main plants cultivated here include cockscomb, black-eyed Susan, cosmos, coreopsis, gaillardia, balsam, China aster, evening primrose, Job’s tears, as well as poplar and willow trees.

[Qixing Mountain Rubber Dam] This project is located on the main stream of the Liao River north of Qixing Mountain, with a dam length of 162 meters. Once filled, it will form a static water surface of 2,200 mu, with a water storage capacity of up to 3.2 million cubic meters, creating a wetland area of over 10,000 mu.

[Wanquan River Wetland] Located at the confluence of Yangchang River, Wanquan River, and West Small River, the wetland covers an area of 7,500 mu. There are two steel gate sluices within the wetland, and upon completion, the wetland area will eventually reach 11,000 mu.

[Qixing Sunflower Viewing] Covering 2,000 mu, this area mainly plants sunflowers, including about 50–60 mu of balsam.

Tourist Waterfront Road Runs Through the Area

To support the wetland park, Shenbei New District has built the Qixing Tourist Avenue and the Tourist Waterfront Road. Among them, the Qixing Tourist Avenue leads directly to the wetland park, while the Shenbei Tourist Waterfront Road runs through the park.

Public Transport and Self-Driving

Public Transport: Take Bus 381 from Beixing and get off at Shifosi Temple.

Self-Driving:

1. 9·18 History Museum → via Wanghua North Street to Hushitai → via Hushitai Street (National Highway 203) to Xinchengzi → via National Highway 203 to Huangjia Township → arrive at the eastern entrance of the Tourist Waterfront Road.

2. Liaoning Hotel → via Huanghe Street to Daoyi → via Daoyi Street (National Highway 101) to Xinglongtai Archway → via Qixing Avenue to Shifosi → arrive at the western entrance of the Tourist Waterfront Road.
