Kangping Liaohe National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Kangping Liaohe National Wetland Park is located on the west bank of the main course of the Liaohe River in Kangping County, Liaoning Province. It encompasses the permanent water surface of the Liaohe River, seasonally flooded plains formed by the river’s periodic inundation, as well as herbaceous and shrub swamps. The wetland park extends north to Majiapu, is bounded on the west by the embankment and roads along the western side of the Liaohe River, follows the central line of the Liaohe River’s main channel on the east, and reaches south to Xiaotazi Village. The planned section of the river stretches 52.70 kilometers in length and ranges from 70 to 120 meters in width, with a total planned area of 2,723.93 hectares, of which 2,357.33 hectares are wetlands—representing a wetland coverage rate of 86.54%.

Based on the distribution of wetland resources and with the goals of preserving ecosystem integrity and enhancing ecological functionality, the Liaohe Wetland Park in Kangping, Liaoning has been divided into five functional zones: Conservation Zone, Ecological Restoration Zone, Environmental Education & Exhibition Zone, Rational Use Zone, and Management & Service Zone.

The development of the wetland park is essential for consolidating the achievements of Liaohe River governance, safeguarding the water environment security of the Liaohe River Basin; it also supports the construction of the strategic framework of "two shields, one belt, and two corridors" to ensure wetland biodiversity; fulfills the need for public education and awareness on ecological conservation; and addresses the requirements for desertification control and regional cooperative management. Once completed, the park will play a vital role in multiple aspects, including riverine ecological security, flood prevention, and eco-tourism economic development. The proposed Kangping Liaohe National Wetland Park in Liaoning will work in tandem with the Changtu Liaohe National Wetland Park across the river to jointly establish the "Liaohe Ecological Corridor" within Liaoning Province’s "two shields, one belt, and two corridors" ecological security framework. Upon completion, the park will effectively improve water quality and reduce soil erosion in the Liaohe River area, enhance its environmental education and wetland management systems, and become a national wetland park that integrates ecological protection, scientific management, public outreach, and sustainable use. This will have a significant and far-reaching impact on Kangping County’s accelerated implementation of its "Ecology-Based County Development" strategy, the establishment of the northernmost green ecological barrier in Liaoning, and the protection of the ecological security of the Central Liaoning Urban Agglomeration.
