Kangping Museum

Kangping Museum is located south of Shunshan Third Road in the new urban area, west of Binhu West Fourth Street, and at the eastern starting point of the Da Liao Sacred City commercial street. Covering an area of 10,000 square meters with a building area of 6,619 square meters, it is the largest single-museum structure in any county-level city or district in Liaoning Province. The main investment in the museum amounted to 41 million yuan, and the structure consists of two above-ground floors with partial three-story sections. The overall architectural form is inspired by the "Eight Tribes of the Khitan" from the Liao Dynasty. The building features eight recessed niches on its sides, each housing a statue of a tribal leader. A continuous sloped roof unifies the eight niches, symbolizing "unity of the eight tribes" and directly reflecting the architectural characteristics of the Liao Dynasty. On either side of the entrance stand statues of a blue ox and a white horse.

The project officially commenced construction in May 2013. The civil engineering has been completed, as has the interior exhibition setup and decoration. The museum began trial operation on August 16 of this year. Kangping Museum includes both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The permanent displays focus mainly on historical and folk exhibits, along with a small number of local chronicles of Kangping (including historical evolution, major events, education, culture and art, intangible cultural heritage, etc.). The first floor of the museum is dedicated to the "Millennial History of Kangping," while the second floor features modern history and folk exhibits, as well as temporary displays on economy, education, calligraphy, and paintings.

Once operational, the museum will effectively protect the county’s historical relics, promote folk culture, further improve the public cultural service system, strengthen cultural infrastructure, enhance Kangping’s urban cultural identity, and drive the county’s economic and social development.
