Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum

The Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum is a classic red tourism destination, as well as a base for patriotic education and national defense education.

The Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum is located at No. 21 South 11th Road, Heping District, Shenyang City (within the compound of the Shenyang Military Region Joint Logistics Department), with a construction area of 3,000 square meters and an exhibition line of approximately 600 linear meters. It is the first theater-level logistics history museum in the entire military.

The Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum vividly and authentically recreates the arduous journey and remarkable achievements of the party, government, military, and civilians in the Northeast Theater in providing logistical support during the Liberation War, the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and the period of socialist construction, through comprehensive historical materials and a unique perspective. Due to the unique historical status and role of the Northeast Theater, the history of the Shenyang Military Region Logistics is not only a microcosm of the party and military history of the Northeast Theater but also an important part of the national and military history.

The theme of the Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum is “Strong Logistics, Guarantee of Victory.” Over 1,000 precious historical photographs and several hundred historical documents and relics transport visitors back to the war-torn years, showing how the party, government, military, and civilians in the Northeast Theater, under the correct leadership of the Party Central Committee, the Central Military Commission, and the Northeast Bureau, earnestly implemented the concept of people’s war, struggled arduously, and built a vast logistical support system for the theater. Their great achievements led to the liberation of the Northeast, supported the nationwide liberation, and secured the great victory in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. These historical facts provide valuable lessons for understanding the concept of people’s war in the new historical era, fully recognizing the important status and role of logistics work, improving national economic mobilization, and establishing an integrated military-civilian support system.

The Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum fully embodies the philosophy of historical materialism, insisting on integrating figures with history and showcasing individuals within the historical context. A separate Logistics Figures Hall has been established. In the “Classic Red Photos,” visitors can see moving images of Comrade Mao Zedong with comrades from the logistics system who participated in historical events, such as Geng Wanfu who took part in the Ningdu Uprising, Long Kaifu in the Autumn Harvest Uprising, Wu Gaizhi in the Jinggangshan struggle, Jiang Zemin who served as a security officer during the Chongqing negotiations, and model nurse Xie Xiumei of the Volunteer Army. In the “Monuments of History,” the great achievements and legendary experiences of logistics leaders such as “Founding Finance Head—Chen Yun,” “Finance Statesman—Li Fuchun,” “Role Model of the Era—Huang Kecheng,” “First Minister—Ye Jizhuang,” “Revolutionary Laborer—He Changgong,” “Northeast Military Hero—Lü Zhengcao,” “Logistics Commander—Hong Xuezhi,” and “Saint of the Military—Li Jukui” are celebrated, inspiring deep respect. In the “Generals of the Same Root,” over 300 provincial/ministerial-level and military senior leaders who once worked in the logistics system are showcased, leaving visitors in awe. The “Cultural Figures” section highlights major works of 15 well-known writers, painters, photographers, and publishers in and outside the military, offering a refreshing experience. In the Honors Room, touching stories are displayed of National Congress delegates, NPC deputies, representatives of national mass organizations, as well as recipients of honors such as “National Combat Heroes,” “Model Workers,” “March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetters,” and those awarded first-class merit or above, serving as great inspiration. Especially in the “Red Army Soldiers Among Us” section, nearly 100 Red Army soldiers from the logistics system are highlighted for their indomitable spirit, unwavering determination, and lofty revolutionary ideals during the epic 25,000-li Long March. The exhibit has received strong positive feedback from audiences and proven highly effective in education.

The Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum has also set up specialized logistics professional halls, including: the Finance Hall, Audit Hall, Health Hall, Barracks Hall, Military Transportation Hall, and Materiel & Petroleum Hall. These professional exhibition halls vividly recreate the development and achievements of various logistics specialties through comprehensive historical materials and artifacts. Many of these facts and accomplishments were previously little known, broadening visitors’ horizons and filling them with pride in having a powerful military logistics system.

The construction of the Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum received strong support from relevant departments both within and outside the military. Zhao Nanqi, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, inscribed the museum’s name. Institutions such as the Central Archives, the Military Museum of China, the Liaoshen Campaign Memorial Hall, and the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea Memorial Hall provided generous assistance for the museum’s construction. Leaders and experts from the Propaganda Departments of the Liaoning Provincial Committee and Shenyang Municipal Committee, as well as the Liaoning Academy of Social Sciences, offered on-site guidance. Leaders of the Shenyang Military Region’s staff, political, logistics, and armament departments spoke highly of the museum’s construction, unanimously agreeing that as an achievement of spiritual civilization, the Shenyang Military Region Logistics History Museum is timely, extraordinary, and invaluable.

In April 2007, the museum was designated as the “Liaoning Provincial National Defense Education Base” by the provincial government.
